Big Changes are coming to the University Centre Food Court this year!
There are a lot of exciting changes coming to the University Centre Food Court this year!
Located on the 2nd floor of the University Centre, the Food Court is Carleton’s largest food location on campus outside of the caf, and features 10 different restaurants that put a veritable smorgasbord of food options at your fingertips. And while all of our tried and true favorites will be back this fall, there are a lot of changes to get excited about as well – all of which are centered around our philosophy of “Real Food, Real Choice”.
New this year is The Market’s expansion into the realm of pizza. Using a stone oven that’s capable of reaching over 650 degrees, we’ll be turning out handcrafted pizzas featuring fresh made in-house dough, our own personal pizza sauce recipe and a variety of locally sourced ingredients including pepperoni from Roma Foods in Montreal. We’re also excited to introduce Urban Deli, our new sandwich restaurant. Featuring bread brought in daily from Portuguese Bakery & Art-is-in, Urban Deli will offer both pre-made sandwiches perfect for people on the move as well as custom-made sandwiches built to your precise specifications. With over 35 different ingredients to choose from, our math majors will appreciate the more than 10 million different possible combinations. Did you know that the Food Court has not one but TWO rotating restaurants? Each year we use these locations to bring in new culinary concepts to keep things fresh and to help us find the next big thing. The Local Ottawa brings a popular Ottawa restaurant directly into the food court, and this year will be featuring Shawarma Palace. Our second rotating concept is called The Kitchen Exchange, and is one of Canada’s first Gluten-Free dedicated restaurants! This year it will be featuring Medi Eats, a Mediterranean based restaurant whose menu includes a Build-Your-Own Souvlaki Combo Plate and Loaded Greek Potatoes!
Other changes include refreshed appearances to a number of our restaurants, including Bento Sushi, and revised menus at The Greens (now offering hot vegan entrees), Colonel By Chicken (now featuring both chicken wings and chicken strips), and Shawarma Palace will soon be offering beef shawarma in addition to chicken and falafel.
Beyond all the new food options being introduced are a number of other major changes in how you place your orders. Firstly, we’re excited to announce that Hey Chef, our mobile ordering app, will now work at the Food Court! Hey Chef lets you order in advance from your phone so you can skip the line and save time. You will also be able to load your Campus Card Dining Dollars onto the app to make purchases at dining locations across campus! The other exciting change is our new kiosk ordering system. Now all orders at the Food Court (with the exception of The Market & Urban Deli) can be done through our kiosks, making it easy to order items from multiple restaurants at once.
