Chef Daniel - Executive Chef
Hi Ravens! I'm Daniel Poulin, and I am the Executive Chef for Carleton Dining Services, here at Carleton University. I have been with Dining Services for about 4 years now. I have been cooking for quite a long time, I've been cooking for 45 years! Look at my grey hair, lots of experience! My favourite food to cook at home is big batches of stuff. I like to cook soups and pasta sauces, and roasts, and ragù, and I freeze it in freezer bags, and I take it out on the weekend when I don't feel like cooking! My favourite place I've travelled to is Japan! I actually lived in Japan for 10 years! An easy cooking tip that everyone should know is, don't forget to put salt in your pasta water when you're cooking pasta! It's the most important thing, that is what's going to bring flavour! And you don't know how much salt you should put in? Just go taste the ocean! I am very excited to have you on campus, and you'll see, here at Carleton Dining Services, you're going to enjoy the cooking we do, for sure!

Chef Laura - Retail Lead Chef
Hey Ravens! I'm Laura and I'm the lead chef in retail, I work out of the Food Court on campus! I've been working for Dining Services for about 4 years, and I have been cooking for just about 15! My favourite food to cook at home, would be anything breakfast related. So pancakes, eggs, omelets, those are definitely my go-to's. My favourite place I've travelled to would be India, where I was very fortunate to be able to be invited to a wedding! My best cooking tip would be to save your bacon fat! So any time you are cooking bacon in a pan, drain the grease off into a little jar and keep it in the fridge. It is a really great secret ingredient to add to peanut butter cookies, anytime you are going to sauté something with oil or butter, you can substitute the bacon fat. I hope to see you around in the Food Court this year, make sure to stop by and say hi!
